Atlas OS’ latest software update brings Spotify to Proton X50, Persona, Iriz

Just as many predicted previously, ACO Tech has now announced its new partnership with Spotify. The collaboration will see the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service being made available directly on the vehicle Infotainment Head Unit (IHU), provided that it’s running the brand’s latest ATLAS operating system.

ACO Tech’s ATLAS OS is currently only available on the updated 2022 Proton Persona and Iriz, but the company says that the Proton X50 will also be receiving the new operating system through an over-the-air software update soon. The company added that the Spotify app will also be preloaded into brand-new Proton vehicles, while existing users will be able to download the app via the A store.

The built-in Spotify app will allow both free and Premium subscribers to access over 82 million audio tracks and more than four million podcast titles, right from the infotainment display itself. Customers who wish to browse Spotify via their phones can also still do so, with audio being casted to the IHU via the Spotify Connect system.

“Working together with Spotify is an important milestone for ACO Tech as the partnership not only helps us to stay competitive in the smart mobility industry, it is also instrumental in easing Malaysians into the possibilities of smart and connected car technologies,” said ACO Tech CEO, Li Pu.

Proton’s GKUI infotainment operating system initially came with ‘Unlimited Music’ preloaded in their cars, and was later replaced with Joox Music sometime during 2020. We think the latest addition of Spotify will be more in tune with what most of its customers want, however, and it’s great to see ACO Tech listening to and actually working towards the customer demands.

While we’re at it, can we please have Google Maps and Waze in the A Store too, or even better – Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity?
