2022 Mazda MX-5 RF updated in Malaysia with Kinetic Posture Control, from RM264k

Following a flurry of updates to the local Mazda model line-up earlier this year, Bermaz Motor has now also unveiled the updated 2022 Mazda MX-5 RF for Malaysia, with the sole addition being a new Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) system.

The update nudges the pricing of the Retractable Fastback roadster up a step (+RM5.4k), with the manual variant now priced at RM264,029, and the automatic now at RM265,964. Both prices are on-the-road, without insurance, and inclusive of the ongoing SST exemptions applicable until the 30th of June 2022 – in this case, a 50% reduction in sales tax due to the car being fully-imported from Japan.

First added to the Mazda MX-5 globally last year, the KPC system applies a light braking force on the inner rear wheel during hard cornering to suppress body roll, which results in a sharper steering and better lateral dynamics – essentially the marque’s version of brake torque vectoring.

The system is especially neat on an ultra-light roadster like the MX-5, as it does all of that without the need for stiffer springs and heavier anti-roll bars. As an extension, ride comfort can also be maintained during normal cruising – win-win.

Aside from the addition of KPC, the rest of the MX-5 RF’s kit list is completely unchanged from before. Underneath the bonnet is still the same SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine, with an unchanged output of 181 hp and 205 Nm of torque that’s sent exclusively to the rear wheels. As before, you also get a choice of either the six-speed automatic or manual transmission.

Standard equipment are identical across both variants, too, which includes 17-inch alloys, adaptive automatic LED headlights, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, nine-speaker Bose sound system, leather upholstery, and a single-zone climate control system.

As for safety, the Mazda MX-5 RF comes as standard with a host of i-Activsense advanced driver assist features, which includes Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), and Driver Attention Alert (DAA).

The 2022 Mazda MX-5 RF is available in Malaysia in six different colour options, including Deep Crystal Blue, Jet Black, Machine Grey, Polymetal Grey, Snowflake White Pearl, and Soul Red Crystal – the same options as before. Similarly, every MX-5 will also come with a five-year, 100,000-km warranty and free maintenance package.
