Mazda 3 updated in Malaysia for 2022 – new range-topping Ignite Edition variant

Bermaz Motor has just announced a flury of new updates to its model line-up here in Malaysia, including the Mazda 3. For 2022, the C-segment hatchback (or sedan) in Malaysia now gains a new flagship variant called the Mazda 3 Ignite Edition, priced at RM164,679.

The new Ignite Edition is based on the previous range-topping 2.0L Hatchback High Plus variant (now RM155,679), which makes it RM9,000 pricier than the model it’s based on. Just as before, it’s also only available as a fully-imported (CBU) model.

So what do you get for that extra dough? For the most part, changes are mostly aesthetic. The Ignite Edition Mazda 3 gains exclusive blacked-out wing mirror caps and 18-inch black metallic alloy wheels, while the seats inside the cabin gets a new luscious Burgundy-coloured leather upholstery.

There are, however, a couple of new goodies on the range-topping model – particularly in its safety equipment. The new 2022 Mazda 3 Ignite Edition in Malaysia now comes with an additional 360-degree surround view monitor (other variants only get reverse camera), alongside an updated ADAS suite with Front Cross Traffic Alert (FCTA), Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS), as well as Driver Attention Alert (DAA) as new additions.

The infotainment display now supports Android Auto connectivity, in addition to just Apple CarPlay previously. The upgrade is also applied to the rest of the variant line-up, as does the updated colour palette: Platinum Quartz now replaces Sonic Silver, alongside six other exterior hues including Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Jet Black, Snowflake White Pearl, Polymetal Grey, and Deep Crystal Blue (Hatchback only).

Aside from those, the rest of the spec sheet remains unchanged across the board for 2022; the Mazda 3 Ignite Edition here is powered by the naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine making 162 hp and 213 Nm, with drive sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The entry-level variant for both the Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback models meanwhile retain their 1.5-litre NA inline-four engine, making 120 hp and 153 Nm of torque, paired to the same six-speed auto transmission.

Pricing has gone up across the board for the 2022 Mazda 3 here in Malaysia, however they’re still backed by the same five-year/100,000 km manufacturer warranty, and a five-year/100,000 km free scheduled service programme.
