Lego’s new range of vehicle sets will make you wish that you’re a kid again

Lego has just introduced its latest range of vehicle sets, dubbed BuildTheThrills here in Malaysia. And even though the most technically challenging set is rated for kids aged nine and up, we young-at-heart adults too can have a world of fun with them, just as we did over the weekend building all of these.

The BuildTheThrills collection ranges from City, Speed Champions, and Creator 3-in-1 series, to the more complex Technic builds, so there’s bound to be a dream car for every child (or adult) to “live out their racing fantasy”.

Sitting at the top of the range are the two Lego Technic models: Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 (RM249.90), and Formula E Porsche 99X Electric (RM219.90). Uniquely, both models feature pull-back motors, which means that these models can actually propel itself without a human pushing them!

Lego has also introduced a new augmented reality (AR) app together with these new models, which means you’ll even be able to drag race against your friends, while adding several special AR experiences including creating your very own drag strip, replete with unique landscapes.

Next up are the new Speed Champions models, headlined by the Lotus Evija (RM89.90) and 1970 Ferrari 512M (RM89.90). As usual, they’re recreated in Lego form in stunning details despite their smaller size, and even features a Lego driver for the full race car experience.

For fans of American muscle, Lego is also offering the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R Race Car and 1968 Chevrolet Corvette together as a duo pack (RM199.90), with 512 individual pieces of fun.

Other highlights of the range include the Creator 3-in-1 Street Racer (RM89.90), which lets you rebuild the set in three different configurations ranging from an SUV-like souped-up “street racer” model with side pipes (!) and a massive rear spoiler, to a out-and-out race car reminiscent of the 2008 Formula 1 cars.

There’s also the City line-up, which includes a 46-piece Race Car model (RM39.90), a City Police Car (RM39.90), a Mobile Crane (RM179.90), and even multiple combo packs to let your kids live out their dream city lives.

The new Lego vehicle sets are available now across the Lego Certified Stores nationwide, Lego Official Stores on Lazada and Shopee, Legoland, as well as major retailers and department stores in Malaysia.

As a celebration of the new BuildTheThrills range, Lego has even built a life-sized 3D version of the Speed Champions 1970 Ferrari 512M build, taking 480 hours to build with 78,496 bricks, weighing 280 kg in total. The model will be on display at the Lego Certified Store at 1 Utama from 11-20 March, before making another pitstop at the Sunway Pyramid store from 25 March to 3 April 2022.
