Here’s the Mazda CX-60 before you’re supposed to see it

It’s not as though we haven’t seen it before, but less than a day before its official launch, the Mazda CX-60 has been leaked once again – this time in high definition photos courtesy of several Instagram accounts, including serial leaker wilcoblok.

The CX-60 is part of Mazda’s latest SUV line-up expansion, underpinned by the marque’s new rear- and all-wheel drive architecture. Designed as a five-seater mid-size SUV for markets more receptive of smaller dimensions such as Europe and Japan, the CX-60 will be offered with Mazda’s latest six-cylinder engines.

From these leaked photos, we can see that the CX-60 does not deviate too much from Mazda’s tried and true design language, somewhat resembling the new CX-5 facelift. Notably, however, it does seem to adopt a bolder design particularly around the fenders, alongside the flatter nose and new unique LED headlights with a distinct daytime-running light signature.

The front bonnet also seems exceptionally long when compared to most SUVs in the market these days, as they’re designed to fit a longitudinal-oriented engine for the car’s rear- and all-wheel drive set-up.

Moving inside, the cabin of the CX-60 once again looks very “Mazda-like”, with all the plush material choices that we’ve come to expect from the Japanese carmaker. From the leaked image, it looks like that the CX-60 will also be the first Mazda model to feature a fully digital instrument cluster, in place of the hybrid units we’ve seen from the marque’s other models.

Other interior highlights include the massive (what looks like a 12.3-inch unit) infotainment display sitting atop the dashboard, tilted slightly towards the driver.

As for powertrains, while nothing has been confirmed just yet, rumours suggest that the range-topping variant will be a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, packing a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine and an electric motor for a maximum combined output in the region of 300 hp.

The global model will also feature Mazda’s SkyActiv-X inline-six petrol engine and SkyActiv-D inline-six diesel in other variants at launch, both paired to a 48V mild-hybrid system.

Word on the grapevine is that we’ll also be receiving the all-new Mazda CX-60 here in Malaysia, although it’s still unclear which powertrain options will be offered here; the Mazda3, which saw the introduction of the brand’s new SkyActiv-X engines globally, was launched here with the older SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated mill.
