All-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class teased – Malaysia launch on 25 Feb?

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has begun teasing the all-new 2022 W206 C-Class on its social media pages, with a cryptic post hinting at an imminent launch this Friday, 25th February.

In a Facebook post today, the company invited the public to “discover [their] latest models” at their Mercedes-Benz Universe event this weekend. While not unusual for a run-off-the-mill corporate post, it’s the accompanying photo that caught our attention.

That’s right – hiding not-so-subtly behind the illustration is what we believe to be the W206 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, as seen from its headlights profile and the two “power humps” on the bonnet.

This was not the first time MBM has teased the arrival of the all-new C-Class, but it’s the first time the company has referenced any sort of launch timeframe. With the purported launch date just a short two sleeps away, what can we expect, then?

As usual, no official information has been provided by MBM just yet. However, the car has already been spotted here in Malaysia, and from the spyshot above sent to us by our reader George L. (thank you!), it’s clear that the compact luxury sedan will be offered in at least two variants at launch.

Based on the model’s current-generation offerings here, we’re inclined to believe that the all-new model will again retain the C 200 and C 300 guises here in Malaysia – the former with an Avantgarde kit, while the latter with the full-blown AMG Line treatment.

Standard equipment lists will have to wait until the launch, but we are fairly confident that the C 300 will see a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four engine underneath the bonnet, potentially with the addition of a 48V mild-hybrid integrated starter generator (ISG) within its nine-speed automatic gearbox.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz C 200 meanwhile could be a little more interesting, as the current W205-generation model in Malaysia has had its mild-hybrid powertrain (as part of the launch specifications) swapped out for a more conventional 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four mill as part of its facelift update, due to market preference.

Globally, the all-new Mercedes-Benz C 200 is offered solely as a mild-hybrid EV, with the M264 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine underneath the bonnet paired to a 48V ISG motor, making roughly 200 hp and 300 Nm of torque as seen on the Singaporean-spec C 200.

One thing’s for sure, though, is that the range-topping variant will definitely come with a panoramic sunroof, as seen from the photos above – so that’s one thing off the checklist. Not too long more to wait now!
