All-new Land Rover Defender 110 set for Malaysian launch on the 21st of October!

Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia (JLRM) is set to launch the all-new Defender 110 at 11 am on the 21st of October 2021. The company has extended the invite to all Malaysians to join the official digital launch via Facebook.

Named the 2021 World Car Design of the Year, the all-new Defender is built on a completely new platform compared to past models. The new Defender sits on an all-aluminium monocoque body that offers even more rigidity than the ladder frame chassis it was built on before.

As you can tell, the exterior is unrecognisable from the iconic Defenders we’ve been used to but it still retains a few trademarks. They include the side-hinged tailgate and the Alpine light windows on the roof.

JLRM said in their press release that there’ll be two powertrain options available for the Defender 110 when it’s launched; the P300 and the P400 MHEV.

The P300 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 300 hp and 400 Nm. The P400 MHEV gets a more powerful 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six assisted by a mild hybrid system. Output is rated at 400 hp and 550 Nm – making it more powerful than the already very quick GLE 450 AMG Line.

Both variants are fitted with an 8-speed automatic transmission and comes with permanent all-wheel drive. It’s towing capacity is rated at 3,500 kg.

Aside from that, JLRM also revealed that the Defender 110 will come with features like the Meridien Sound System, a 3D Surround Camera, ClearSight Ground View as first seen in the Velar we reviewed, and air suspension. Unlike most pick-ups which are limited to wading depths of around 700 to 800 mm, the Defender can handle up to 900 mm.

Stay tuned for more!
