Indonesian man buys dream Toyota Rush with RM79k worth of coins

As the saying goes, if there is a will, there’s a way and as we have all encountered at least once in our lives; there’s always a way. A man from Makassar in Sulawesi, Indonesia, and his soon-to-arrive dream car, the Toyota Rush is one such example.

Asriadi Syamsuddin who earns a living as a hawker has been eyeing the Toyota Rush since September 2018 and started saving for it ever since with proceeds from his business. The savings would also consist of tips from his customers.

The savings would go into large bottles meant for water dispensers and in just under four years, both Asriadi and spouse accumulated nine of these large bottles.

They’re filled with IDR 100 and 500 Rupiah coins, along with 1,000 and 2,000 Rupiah notes stored separately in boxes. In total, the couple saved up over 271 million Rupiah (approximately RM79k) to purchase their dream compact 7-seater SUV.

The manager at the local Toyota Kalla Cokroaminoto dealership was happy to accept the coins as payment and said all customers should and will be treated the same.

That said, after three long days of counting since the coins arrived at the end of September, the staff at the Toyota dealership have yet to finalise the 271 million Rupiah which the nine bottles are claimed to contain.

Asriadi however, has paid a deposit of 10 million Rupiah separately to confirm his new, red Toyota Rush.
