It seems like people just can’t get enough of the jacked up SUV looks; at the launch of the Thai 2021 Toyota Vios (Yaris Ativ) and Yaris last Friday, Toyota Thailand also unveiled a new ‘X-Urban’ trim for the Yaris hatchback, equipped with a lifted suspension kit to give it a crossover-like appearance.
Aside from the raised suspension set-up, which gives the hatchback an additional 30 mm of height, the X-Urban trim also comes with a “Sport Crossover style” body kit, consisting of new front and rear bumper extensions with chunky bashplate-like styling elements, along with black plastic wheel arch claddings and side skirts.
The Toyota Yaris X-Urban is also equipped with a set of two-toned 16-inch alloy wheels, up from 15-inch units on the standard Yaris models.
Inside, the Toyota Yaris X-Urban gets a unique two-tone Terra Rossa red and black synthetic leather upholstery, contrasted by grey cross stitching on the seats, centre console armrest, and steering wheel. Everything else, though, is unchanged from the standard Toyota Yaris models in Thailand.
The X-Urban trim is only available on the Sport and Sport Premium variants of the Toyota Yaris in Thailand, at an extra cost of 44,600 baht (approx. RM5,580).
The Sport Premium variant adds several additional niceties to the SUV-fied hatchback, including LED front fog lights, automatic wipers, a 4.2-inch multi-info display on the instrument cluster, front and rear digital video recorder (dashcam), and extra safety standard equipment in the form of autonomous emergency braking and lane-departure alert.
Powering the Toyota Yaris X-Urban is the same unchanged 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine, providing a maximum power output of 92 hp and 109 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a Super CVT-i automatic gearbox.
Colour choices for the SUV-fied Toyota Yaris include Platinum White Pearl, Red Mica Metallic, and Grey Metallic – all with a glossy black roof.
