This is the new GR86’s money shot – Toyota releases more images

Doesn’t that rear quarter angle just induce some excitement? Doesn’t it rile you? It’s perhaps the new GR86’s “better side” and Toyota has released new images for you to ponder over it.

Granted, it’s a new car but with all the swoops and bulges that finish with a prominent duck tail spoiler, it makes the predecessor look two generations older. It literally looks like the GT 86 spent some time at the gym and come out looking like Jason Mamoa 12 months later.

It’s more powerful too. Under the hood is now a 2.4-litre flat-four boxer engine, up from 2.0-litre, with 235 hp and 250 Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels, either with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Despite weighing more than 30 kg more than its predecessor, at 1,270 kg, the new GR86 is a full second faster from 0 to 100 km/h, now at 6.3 seconds. The new Mk 8 Golf GTI is now in its shooting range.
