All-new Toyota Land Cruiser premiered, twin-turbo engines plus sporty GR variant

Toyota has finally unveiled the all-new Land Cruiser, replacing the outgoing 200-series that has been in production since September 2007. The new model builds on Land Cruiser’s 70-year heritage and more than 10 million sales across 170 countries and regions.

The world premiere of the new model dubbed the 300-series took place in one of the Land Cruiser’s biggest market- Dubai. The all-new Land Cruiser now features a new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that is bespoke for the model, as it is the first to be designed for a body-on-frame application.

The new GA-F platform was designed to be stiffer yet lighter, with the overall weight of the new Land Cruiser some 200 kg lower than its predecessor. Apart from a lighter chassis, advancement in powertrain technologies also means more compact engine and transmission units are used in the new Land Cruiser.

Two new twin-turbocharged V6 engines are on offer, with the 3.5-litre petrol developing 415 hp and 650 Nm of torque. The diesel mill meanwhile generates 309 hp and 700 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

The suspension system now features a world-first Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS), where hydraulic fluid is used to keep the body level on smooth roads while extending suspension stroke during off-road. Other areas of improvement for better off-road driving include a Multi-Terrain Monitor and the Multi-Terrain Select drive mode.

The all-new Land Cruiser will also offer a sportier GR variant that has a honeycomb grille and gloss black highlights based on observation of the images.

As for the safety system, the Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance system now adds an oncoming traffic and pedestrian detection function while the new Land Cruiser is turning at an intersection. A new emergency steering and crash avoidance will also be featured to avoid a collision via steering and lane-keeping assistance.

More information on the new Land Cruiser 300-series will be presented by Toyota as the global launch and introduction to key markets begins from this summer.
