Toyota GR Supra gets decked out with carbon fibre on new A91-CF Limited Edition

The Toyota GR Supra has sort of fell off the headlines a little bit, ever since the introduction of its younger (and arguably more attractive) brother, the GR Yaris – well, on the internet at least. So to gain some brownie points, Toyota USA has unveiled a new limited-edition GR Supra, called the A91-CF. And yes, the CF means carbon fibre.

While last year’s revision brought forth some mechanical updates, this year’s model is reserved only to the exterior trim package. Available only in one configuration, the Supra A91-CF is powered by the 3.0-litre inline six turbocharged engine that makes 387 hp and 500 Nm, courtesy of last year’s update.

The BMW-sourced engine is paired to a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox to send drive to the rear wheels, resulting in a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 3.9 seconds. Standard Supra kit like the reprogrammed Adaptive Variable Sport (AVS) suspension, active rear differential, and the Brembo brake kit are also all carried over from last year’s update.

As for the CF in the frankly terrible name, the Toyota Supra A91-CF gets a new front splitter with massive canard fins on the sides, side skirts, duckbill spoiler, and matching canards on the new lower bumper – all made from unpainted carbon fibre, of course.

Toyota says that these carbon fibre parts are not merely for aesthetic purposes only; they actually improve downforce and stability “during both everyday drives and hot laps around the local track”. Tying up the new exterior styling treatment is a new set of 19-inch exclusive double-spoke wheels, finished in matte black, alongside red-painted brake calipers.

Inside, the Toyota Supra A91-CF is trimmed in red-and-black Alcantara and leather upholstery, featuring red stitching details on the standard 14-way power adjustable heated sport seats and leather wrapped three-spoke steering wheel. Despite the new CF name, the carbon fibre trim in the cabin is actually carried over from the regular Supra, and not a new addition on this variant.

Only 600 units of the CF-dressed Toyota Supra will be made, with all of it reserved specifically for the North America market. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but Toyota says that the GR Supra A91-CF Edition will go on sale this fall, and will be available in either Absolute Zero White (pictured), Nitro Yellow or Phantom Matte Grey.
