New Mitsubishi Xpander facelift coming in 2023 – Hybrid variant confirmed

The Mitsubishi Xpander first had its global reveal back in 2017, and even then, its design was based on a concept unveiled in 2016. In automotive terms, that’s basically a lifetime – so a facelift for the Mitsubishi Xpander is pretty much due.

According to a roadmap that was included in Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s (MMC) FY2020 annual report, the company has now confirmed that a “new Xpander” model will be introduced in 2023, two years from now!

Not much else has been revealed on the new model just yet, but the roadmap did mention a “Xpander HEV” model that will also be introduced in 2023, which means that there’ll definitely be one new hybrid powertrain option underneath the sheet metal.

The 2023 “New Xpander” is most likely a major facelift for the model, similar to what we saw on the current Mitsubishi Triton. Curiously, the roadmap also mentions a “new Triton” that’s due for 2022, could we be getting a second facelift for the hugely-popular pick-up truck, perhaps one with Ralliart branding? Only time will tell – but at least it’s not too long of a wait from now!

For the new Xpander, we expect to see a refreshed exterior more closely tied to Mitsubishi’s latest concepts, along with a spruced up cabin with more creature comforts – the latter hopefully includes a range of advanced driver assistance features.

The new Mitsubishi Xpander that’s due for 2023 will actually be the second refresh the model has seen; the Malaysian-market model was actually launched in the facelifted form. However, the changes were mild at best, with most of the differences reserved to the equipment list of the seven-seater MPV.
