Video: Kia Seltos EX and GT Line, 5 Things

The Proton X50 is all the rage these days, with orders apparently already backed-up into a six-month waitlist. But for those who live to stand out from the crowd, you’d be pleased to find out that there’s yet another option, in the form of the Kia Seltos.

Kia’s latest B-segment SUV is now available in Malaysia in two variants – EX and GT Line, with prices starting at RM115,888 on the road, without insurance, and inclusive of the sales tax exemptions.

And stand out it does, with an exterior design that’s almost the perfect balance between youngster-friendly funkiness and utilitarian. On the GT Line, red accents are littered throughout the exterior for some extra “go fast” appeal.

The designers at Kia has also dedicated extra attention to the lightings on the Seltos, particularly with the “heart beat” LED daytime-running lights, tail lights, and the “ice cube” LED fog lights on the GT Line.

The party continues inside too – quite literally – with the “Sound Mood Lighting” feature which pulses the ambient lighting around the interior and within the 3D speaker grilles according to the beat of the music being played. With the Covid-19 pandemic still ravaging the country, this might be the safest way to experience the KL nightlife.

Kia Seltos EX.

Both variants of the Kia Seltos will come equipped with the same powertrain underneath their bonnets – a 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission to send 123 hp and 151 Nm of torque to the front wheels.

While it is just a front-wheel driven vehicle, the Kia Seltos does come with a Traction drive mode selector with settings for sand, mud, and even snow to help with traction in trickier situations.

That is all well and good, but does it truly have what it takes to go up against the new king of the hill? Well – check out the video above and decide for yourself.
