Karrus Automotive is giving driving enthusiasts a reason to celebrate by announcing the arrival of the Caterham 7 – now available in Malaysia – in the form of the 310S, the 420R, and the 620S.
The 310S is powered by a 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine with 154 hp and 168 Nm, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Its performance figures may not seem like much, but with the car weighing just 540 kg, 0 to 100 km/h is done in just 4.9 seconds. Top speed is rated at 204 km/h.
The 310
With the Sport pack, the 310S comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, upgraded brake master cylinder, and a MOMO steering wheel.
As for the 420R, it gets a 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine that’s good for 212 hp and 203 Nm. With the extra power, the 560 kg 420R will give the Mercedes-AMG A45 and BMW M3 a good run for their money; taking just 3.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. Top speed is rated at 219 km/h.
The 420
Like the 310S, the 420R also gets a 5-speed manual with the addition of a limited-slip differential and lightweight flywheel. Notable features include a carbon fibre dashboard, composite race seats with a 4-point harness, “Race-pack” front ventilated discs with 4-pot calipers, a suede MOMO steering with quick release, and a track day roll bar.
Lastly, there’s the 620S, the most powerful of all the Caterham 7s. Its 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox has been supercharged to produce 314 hp and 297 Nm.
Despite weighing the most at 610 kg, the 620S will keep up with the likes of Ferrari’s 812 Superfast from a standstill as 0 to 100 km/h takes just 2.8 seconds, onward to a top speed of 249 km/h.
The 620
With all that performance, the 620S gets a race developed cooling system, limited-slip differential, front aerofoil wishbones, and rear anti-roll bars. Unlike the 310S and 420R, which comes with side-exit exhausts, the one on the 620S extends all the way to the rear.
Standard equipment includes a 4-point harness, 4-pot front calipers, a carbon fibre dashboard and carbon interior panels. Prices start from RM462k for the 310S, RM568k for the 420R and RM688k for the 620S.
