Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) together with Wei-Ling Gallery have successfully raised RM133,200 from their recent auction of the Arteon Art Car collection. All proceeds from the auction will be channeled to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA), with a minimum token of appreciation presented to each artist for their contribution.
The auction marked the culmination of the collaboration between VPCM and Wei-Ling Gallery, aimed to celebrate the launch of the Volkswagen Arteon R-Line. The collaboration featured works of 13 Malaysian artists, each designing a one-of-a-kind art sculpture out of an Arteon die-cast model.
Speaking at the auction, VPCM Managing Director Erik Winter said, “It was truly heartening to see art and Arteon come together at the auction, and to witness how much the bidders recognised the value of owning such collectible art pieces. What more, was that their enthusiasm stemmed from their desire to contribute to charity, in this case, breast cancer awareness and support.”
Founder and Gallery Director Lim Wei-Ling added, “We are honoured to have partnered with Volkswagen to realise the Arteon art car project in Malaysia and are so pleased this collaboration has resulted in such a successful outcome. I am grateful to the 13 Malaysian artists who dedicated time and thought to the creation of the art cars to aid a worthy cause.”
The Arteon Art Car project was an extension to Wei-Ling Gallery’s recent “18@8 Turning Points” exhibition, which curated thought-provoking art pieces that showed the 13 artists’ pasts through different philosophical, technical and aesthetic approaches.
The Volkswagen Arteon R-Line was launched in Malaysia back in September this year. Taking the top spot in VPCM’s model line-up, the sporty four-door coupe is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, good for 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque, with power sent to the front axle via an seven-speed DSG gearbox.
