Formula 1’s Mercedes-AMG GT R Safety Car returns with a new look!

Mercedes-AMG GT R F1 Safety Car returns with a new look!

When Formula 1 returns for this weekend’s Austrian GP, the FIA will show its appreciation to everyone around the world for their strength and resilience in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The sport’s governing body will also show its unity in the fight against racism and inequality in Formula 1 through the AMG GT R safety car.

As such the AMG GT R safety car will project new visuals – a rainbow and the #weraceasone hashtag. The same visuals will also feature on all the Formula 1 race cars and around the circuit.

The rainbow was chosen as it has become a symbol that is used internationally to bring communities together. The words “Drive Safely” will also be visible on the bonnet of the Formula 1 Safety Car, addressing and reminding F1 fans to always drive in a careful and considerate manner. The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Estate used as the Official F1 Medical Car will also sport the same design.

Specifications of the AMG GT R remain unchanged from the standard car, even though it’s tasked to lead a pack of Formula 1 race cars. It makes 585 hp and 700 Nm from a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine. 0 to 100 km/h is done in 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 318 km/h, just like the standard car.

In Malaysia, the AMG GT R is priced at RM1.7 million, while the AMG GT C is priced at RM1.5 million. Both are on-the-road prices excluding insurance. For the updated price list on Mercedes-Benz vehicles, click here.
