Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has finally followed up the launch of the baby AMG with its twin brother, the Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC in hatchback form. But that’s not all, because this one’s a little special – it’s available in the Edition 1 variant.

Included in the Edition 1 variant is the Aerodynamic Package – which includes the aerodynamic “flics” on the front bumper, a new front bumper, a large roof spoiler, as well as a more pronounced rear diffuser, as well as the Night Pack, which comes with blacked-out front lower apron, window linings, and side mirror housings.

Aside from that, the Edition 1 also comes exclusively in a snazzy Metallic Blue Denim exterior colour, matched with gold-coloured decal stickers on the side. The new A 35 also comes with 19-inch AMG multi spoke alloy wheels, finished in a light-gold colour dubbed “Tech Gold.

As for performance, the new A 35 hatchback is powered by the same M260 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine found in the sedan, which means power output is the same at 306 hp and 400 Nm. Paired to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual-clutch transmission with power sent to all four wheels, the A 35 hatchback does 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, onward to a top speed of 250 km/h.

With the extra kit, the A 35 Edition 1 hatchback is priced RM31K higher than its sedan counterpart, coming in at RM379,888. Though when compared to the two other compact AMG cars launched together, the A35 is priced more in line with the outgoing AMG A 45 model. Will the new baby AMG be enough to dethrone the crowd favourite? Only time will tell.
