Gallery: Volvo XC90 updated for 2020, stays classy

Volvo’s flagship SUV receives a little nip and tuck, as well as a few extra toys. As before, three variants are for sale in Malaysia, with the halo variant being the XC90 T8 Inscription Plus.

For all three, a prominent new grille finds its way onto the front of the car, while the fog lamps receive silver garnishes. A silver strip stretches across the rear reflectors too.

These complement the 20-inch wheels on the T8 (19-inch for T5), Active Bending Lights, Headlight washers and air suspension.

Five exterior colours are available, of which two are new. They are Crystal White Pearl, Denim Blue Metallic, Onyx Black Metallic, Pebble Grey Metallic, and Thunder Grey Metallic – the latter two are new.

Safe as it already is, Volvo had managed to make the XC90 even safer. City Safety and Blind Spot Information Systems have both been incorporated with Active Steering Assist. A new system called Oncoming Lane Mitigation is introduced, while Cross Traffic Alert now comes with autonomous braking.

As before, two engine configurations are available. The Volvo XC90 T5 has a 2.0-litre engine turbocharged to 254 hp and 350 Nm of torque, and power goes to every wheel through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

New features such as third-air conditioning, Road Sign Information System, 4-zone climate control and a cooled glove box now find themselves included in the T5.

There are other seating configuration options available globally, but here in Malaysia, we get the 7-seater. Other kit includes head up display, 360-degree display, Park Pilot Assist, panoramic sunroof, Walnut wood trims and Nappa leather upholstery.

Meanwhile, the T8 is still a 2.0-litre supercharged and turbocharged unit that is coupled with an electric engine to give 407 hp and 640 Nm of torque. Like the T5, it has an 8-speed auto box and AWD. The battery pack is upgraded from 11.6 kWh from 10.4 kWh, giving it a maximum range of 50 km, up from 45 km.

The T8 Inscription and T8 Inscription Plus both gets a redesigned Orrefors crystal gear lever, while the latter is still the only one to come with a Bowers and Wilkins Premium Sound Audio System with 19 speakers. All other variants have to make do with a 10-speaker system.

Prices for personal registration in Peninsular Malaysia without insurance are:
Volvo XC90 T5 RM373,888
Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription RM399,888
Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Plus RM409,888
