Bridgestone Malaysia sponsors local team in upcoming World Solar Challenge

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is making a return this year, and our Malaysian team will be competing for a top-5 finish!

The sole Malaysian participant, Eco Photon Solar Racing Team from University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will be representing the nation for the third time. To further encourage their commitment to excel, Bridgestone Tyres Malaysia will be sponsoring “Ecopia with Ologic” tyres for the team’s vehicles from testing to the race.

Bridgestone Tyre Malaysia, Managing Director, Michael Chung said, “We are proud and honoured to support UiTM’s Eco Photon Solar Racing Team to the leading event. The “Ecopia with Ologic” tyre is engineered with Bridgestone fuel saving technology which is designed specifically for solar cars. The tyre comes with a wider diameter which limits changes in the shape of the contact patch to yield lower rolling resistance, thus improves fuel efficiency.”

The Eco Photon Solar Racing Team will be driving the Tigris on a 3000 km journey from Darwin to Adelaide from the 13th to 20th of October 2019. Competing in the Challenger class, the optimized carbon fibre solar car – which comprises of an upgraded self-built monitoring system with high accuracy measurements and robust safety system – will be fighting among other competitors to be the first car to the finish line.

Team president, Syazwan said that “with all the improvements from previous car and the new technology implemented, we aim to be on the top 5 in the Challenger class. We are also eyeing for the ‘Best Creative and Multimedia’ award as well as ‘Best Safety Prioritized’ award.”

By supporting the World Solar Challenge, Bridgestone is standing by its core values of their global social responsibility commitment of ‘mobility, people and environment’, by supporting the further development of solar cars, young engineers and the use of renewable power source.

Traversing 3,000 kilometers in a single trip is a challenge for any car, and even more so for a built-from-scratch solar-powered car. We wish Tigris and the Eco Photon Solar Racing Team the best of luck in the upcoming race!
