The sleeker, more futuristic B-Class now in Malaysia as the B200 Progressive Line

Alongside the announcement of the new GLA 200 “Style” variant, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has also announced the arrival of the all-new B-Class to the local market.

The W247 B-Class will only be available in one variant at the moment – the B 200 Progressive Line, priced at RM239,888.

Powering the B 200 is a 1.3-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine – the same powertrain from the A 200 – producing an output of 163 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the B 200 does the century sprint in 8.2 seconds.

The all-new B-Class takes on the new Mercedes-Benz design language with a sportier design all-round, including slimmer headlights and a lower front bonnet. The Progressive Line exterior features a twin louvre radiator grille with chrome inserts, front apron with chrome insert, side sill panels and the 18-inch 5-twin spoke light-alloy wheels.

Moving to the back, the B 200 Progressive Line gets two-part tail lamps, reflectors integrated in the bumper, a chrome strip, as well as a large roof spoiler.

Mercedes-Benz has given the third-generation B-Class a huge makeover in the interior department; modeled heavily after the A-Class. The highlight of the cabin is the new dual-digital displays right at the top of the dashboard, functioning as both the instrument cluster and infotainment display.

The B-Class is the second car after the A-Class in the Mercedes-Benz model lineup to feature the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system. The MBUX system incorporates several key new functionalities such as augmented reality navigation overlay, as well as the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also available on this system.

Elsewhere, the B 200 Progressive Line gets the Comfort Package seats with Black Artico leather upholstery, open-power wood trim, gloss black centre console, and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel.

If you’re afraid that the all-black interior will be too dark and gloomy, Mercedes-Benz has included a 64-colour interior ambient lighting to help offset the slightly monotonous interior, with light strips all around the dashboard, door trims, centre console, and even the air-con vents!

Safety wise, Mercedes has included Blind Spot Assist and Active Brake Assist to the B 200, along with Parktronic Active Parking Assist to help you navigate in and out of a tight parallel parking space.
