The updated Persona has been a large contributor too; with over 2,720 unis delivered in July and over 10,034 units delivered since its launch just a few months ago in April. As for the updated Iriz, 3,035 units have been sold since it was introduced side by side with the updated Persona.

Total sales for the year now stands at 52,269 units, compared to 35,561 units for the same period last year.

Here’s what’s new in the updated Proton Persona.

“PROTON’s return to second place overall in the Malaysian automotive market has happened ahead of schedule. The growth in demand for our products show we are on track to meet our long term targets and for the rest of 2019, we intend to consolidate our position to finish the year in 2nd spot for the first time in four years,” said Proton CEO, Dr Li Chunrong.

As for the beloved Proton X70, over 17,000 units have been delivered since the start of 2019, with July contributing 1,932 units.

“While the Proton X70 continues its upward sales trajectory, other Proton models are the staple of our performance. The Proton Persona is now the sales leader in a segment that is ruled by Japanese products. Even the Proton Iriz has seen a surge in demand with sales growing by over 50%,” added Dr Li Chunrong.
