Kia made a stripped out, track version of the Kia Stinger with over 420 hp

Kia Motors UK wanted to see how far they can push the performance boundaries of the brand’s halo model, the Kia Stinger. With the help from Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre, the Kia Stinger GT420 is born.

The track-only car uses the same 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine and 8-speed automatic transmission as the road car but significantly beefed up to deliver 428 hp and 560 Nm of torque. This was achieved with a new HKS M45il spark plugs, K&N sports air filter, Milltek Sports de-cat exhaust system, transmission cooler and a recalibrated transmission software.

A set of OZ Racing Leggera alloy wheels measuring 19-inch in diameter (5 kgs lighter than standard wheels each), Pirelli Trofeo R tyres, Brembo six-pot front calipers and Endless brake pads are fitted to keep the speedy Stinger in check.

To further enhance the Stinger’s on-track performance, the cabin is stripped out. With the removal of interior trim, sound system, parking sensors, sunroof, sound insulation materials and others, the result is a total weight reduction of 150 kg. Although it’s cute how they have retained the standard multifunctional steering wheel…

Lastly, a custom roll cage, Sparco race seats and fire extinguisher are bolted into the cabin to ensure the Kia Stinger GT420 is ready to hit the tracks.
