We are days away from the official debut of the third-generation Volvo S60 and now the Swedish premium car maker has teased the range-topping variant of its forthcoming sedan, the Volvo S60 T8 TwinEngine Polestar Engineered.
This will be the first time a Polestar-tuned Volvo that will be offered as part of the product variant line up. The Polestar Engineered is positioned above the R-Design versions and features all the performance-enhancing bits from Polestar.
There is a catch however, the Polestar Engineered variant will be offered exclusively with the T8 TwinEngine plug-in hybrid powertrain option, highlighting Volvo and Polestar’s commitment for electrified vehicles.
President and CEO at Volvo Cars, Håkan Samuelsson said: “Electric cars are our future. Today starts a new era of Volvo electrified models enhanced by Polestar’s performance engineering prowess. This strategy is firmly grounded in our shared belief in an electric future for the car industry.”
You can discern a Polestar Engineered variant through its golden-painted Brembo brake calipers – the new hallmark colour for Polestar Engineered components – Polestar emblems, black chrome exhaust pipes, adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers and strut bars as well as gold seatbelts inside.
Under the hood, Polestar has bumped the output of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin charged T8 plug-in hybrid mill from 400 hp and 640 Nm to 415 hp and 670 Nm of twist. The eight-speed automatic transmission has also been recalibrated to suit the increased output. Naturally, fuel consumption and emission figures were not compromised.
Volvo has also expressed that the Polestar Engineered will be available for other 60 series T8 TwinEngine models like the V60 and XC60 – the latter is available on sale right here in Malaysia. However, don’t get your hopes high for it to make its way here as Volvo has said that Polestar Engineered models will only be available in “limited numbers”.
Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Volvo Cars, Henrik Green commenting on the new model variant: “The new S60 T8 Polestar Engineered is an electrified car that does what you want it to. All components have been fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting driver’s car.”
