Kia Optima K5 facelift unveiled for Europe, sedan & wagon included



Shortly after presenting itself in its home market, the Kia Optima K5 facelift has found its way to Europe. The refreshed Optima which is available in both sedan and estate body styles will make its official debut at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS).

Firstly, the exterior gets a new front bumper and vertical tiger nose grille, LED fog lamp housings, restyled projector headlamps as well as new LED taillamp graphics. Alloy wheel sizes range from 16- to 18-inches in diameter. A new Runway Red is also added to the colour palette.

Inside the Europe-bound Optima, you’ll find a new steering wheel, satin-chrome interior trims, six-colour ambient lighting and two-tone interior trims (leather or fabric). Like the Korean market Optima, Europe market also gets the new 8.0-inch Smart Navigation UVO 3.0 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charger and surround view camera.

Also making its debut is Kia’s all-new 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine, codenamed “U3”, to replace the 1.-7-litre CRDi unit. The new engine features Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) active emissions control technology to reduce emissions and help meet strict Euro 6d emission standards. Output is rated at 134 hp and 320 Nm of torque.

New to the Optima range is a 177 hp/264 Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder T-GDI paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The new petrol mill slots between the 2.0-litre four-cylinder CVVL (160 hp/196 Nm) and 2.0-litre T-GDi (241 hp/350 Nm).

Kia’s latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) will also be available with the refreshed Optima that bundles Driver Attention Warning (DAW), Forward Collision-avoidance Assist (FCA) with pedestrian recognition, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and High Beam Assist (HBA).
