First displayed at the 2017 Carlist.my Test, Drive and Buy Event and subsequently toured around Malaysia and as much hype as it generated, the silver Toyota CH-R was an Australian-spec unit, not an actual representation of what we will be getting here.
At the 2017 Malaysia Autoshow, UMW Toyota (UMWT) displayed a Blue Metallic CH-R that has been adapted to our local Malaysian specification. Yes folks, what you see is pretty much what you get when the much-awaited CH-R officially goes on sale in Malaysia.

Visually, our local spec CH-R mirrors the Australian-spec – projector headlamps with three-dotted LED daytime running lights, front fog lamps, C-Shaped LED taillamps, shark-fin antenna, rear spoiler, hidden rear door handles and 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 profile tyres. It also gets blacked out wing mirrors and roof as promised on UMWT’s official website.
Inside our local-spec CH-R is furnished with leather upholstery, three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, analogue instrument cluster with multi-info display, electronic parking brake with auto hold, floating infotainment system with localised settings, built-in dash camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, manual levelling seats with powered lumbar support and all four auto-windows.
Motivation comes from a sole 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder paired to a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Safety wise, the CH-R comes with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Blind Spot Monitoring, Electronic Stability Control and a suite of safety features.
A total of six exterior shades will be offered – White Pearl CS, Metal Stream Metallic, Attitude Black while Red Mica, Radiant Green Metallic and Blue Metallic will come with a blacked out roof. Our CH-R will be fully imported from Thailand with prices and launch date to be confirmed at a later date.
