Shortly after its global debut late last year, Michelin Malaysia have just introduced the new ultra-high performance (UHP) Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S (PS4S) to the Malaysian market. Available for wheel sizes of 19-inch in diameter and above, the PS4S is the replacement of the Pilot Super Sport.
Developed in partnership with Ferrari, Porsche, Ford, BMW’s M division and Mercedes-AMG, the PS4S was developed with one objective in mind – to best complement the high-performance vehicles from these renowned carmakers. The PS4S promises superior handling capabilities, shorter braking distance in wet and dry roads as well as extended longevity.
Designed for sports cars and premium sedans, the PS4S offers unparalleled steering precision and directional stability. A new bi-compound technology is applied to offer excellent grip and braking performance in both wet and dry conditions. Excellent steering control with “Dynamic Response” technology ensures that steering input is accurately translated to the vehicle’s direction change on the road.
Like all of Michelin’s high performance tyres, the PS4S also gets Michelin Premium Touch Technology® at the sidewalls, giving the tyre a velvet-like tyre writing. The velvet finish also makes the tyre instantly recognisable and acts as a rim protector that cushions the rims from harsh contact with the kerb.
In a comparison test conducted by independent organisation TÜV SÜD in Germany, the PS4S came out on top in four key aspects – dry braking, wet braking, lap time and longevity. The test was conducted with 255/35/R19 tyres against five other main competitors – Bridgestone Potenza S001, Continental SportContact 6, Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and Pirelli PZero Nero GT purchased on the European market.
In the dry braking test, the PS4S came to a stop from 100km/h in just 33.66 meters, besting its closest competitor by 0.83 meter. In the wet from 80km/h, the PS4S takes only 27.73 meters although Goodyear trails behind by a mere 0.1 meter. Around a 2.6 km track, the PS4S took 1 minute and 20.33 seconds beating its rivals with a gap of up to 1.39 seconds.
Perhaps the most significant edge the PS4S has over its competitors is its longevity. The PS4S is the only tyre to break the 50k mileage barrier at 52,032km while its closest rival only manages 48,910 km. That’s almost 3,122 km lesser than the PS4S!
The UHP Michelin PS4S is now available across all Tyre Plus and Michelin authorised dealers nationwide with recommended retail prices starting from RM1,100. If you don’t have massive 19-inch alloys and above, perhaps the Pilot Sport 4 would be of your interest.
