All-new Hyundai Elantra Sport previewed in M’sia, 1.6L turbo, 201 hp & 265 Nm!

Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM), the official distributor of Hyundai cars in Malaysia has quietly displayed the sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra at the Mid Valley Shopping Centre. The variant on display is actually the top-spec Elantra Sport and yes, it comes with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine to go against the Civic 1.5 turbo.

Based on the spec-sheet available, this Elantra Sport share the same 1.6 T-GDI engine as the Veloster Turbo. However, the Elantra here develops a whopping 201 hp and 265 Nm of torque. That makes it 30 hp and 45 Nm more powerful than the Civic! Power is transferred to the front wheels via a seven-speed double clutch gearbox.

If this preview is a true reflection of the actual car, our local-spec Elantra will be dressed with a hexagonal chrome grille, sportier front bumper with large side intakes, HID projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, bumper-mounted LED daytime running lights, LED combination tail lamps, rear diffuser with central mounted fog lamps, powered sunroof, dual exhaust tips and 17-inch five-spoke alloys wrapped in 225/45 profile tyres.

Now we apologise for not being able to provide you with pictures of the cabin because it’s off limits. But from what we can tell, the Elantra Sport comes with a two-tone black and red interior theme with Sport embroidery on both front seats. Other notable features include leather upholstery, multi-functional steering wheel with paddle shifters, dual-zone climate control, manual parking brake, keyless entry and start, drive mode selector and cruise control.

Order books for the sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra are now open and you can catch it in the metal at Mid Valley Megamall, Centrecourt. What do you think, dear readers? Is the Elantra Sport enticing enough to swing you over from the Civic? One thing is for sure though, it certainly seems capable of outperforming the Civic!
