UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia is expanding its recall exercise, or in UMW’s terms – Special Service Campaign (SSC) for the replacement of front passenger side airbag inflator modules.

A total of 42,000 vehicles manufactured between May 2010 to December 2012 are involved in this SSC. Cars involved include:

ModelYear Model
Corolla Altis2010 – 2012
Vios
Yaris
Alphard

All models affected are distributed by UMW Toyota. The company is working closely with Toyota Motor Corporation to obtain the replacement parts as soon as possible. In time, UMW Toyota will inform owners directly to bring their cars to an authorised Toyota Service Centre to make the necessary replacement. All costs involved will be borne by UMW Toyota.

In case you are not aware of the ongoing Takata crisis, we have detailed in full on why you should get your faulty airbags replaced as soon as possible. In short, the faulty airbag module, when deployed, will send metal shards into the occupants and cause even more harm, In some cases, even death!

Toyota owners of any model can also head over to Toyota’s dedicated SSC webpage to key in your respective VIN number(s) to determine if your car is affected. The replacement only takes one to three hours and is free of charge, so hurry and get those faulty airbags replaced.
