Toyota Sienta 1.5G & 1.5V launched in Malaysia, priced at RM93k and RM100k

If this is the first time you’ve laid eyes on the Toyota Sienta, you’d be glad to have not seen the first generation model. The Sienta you see here is the second-generation model and is the first time it has ever been sold in Malaysia through an official channel.

This mini MPV has three rows of seats and accommodates seven occupants, including the driver. Two variants are on offer – the entry-level 1.5G and range topper 1.5V. They’re both mechanically identical and are powered by the new 2NR-FE engine that’s currently shared with the new Avanza. The engine in question is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit with dual VVT-i technology, one that will come with the Vios when it gets updated soon.2016 Toyota Sienta debuts in Malaysia - AutoBuzz.my

The two variants are only separated by equipment list, but here you’ll find that the 1.5V, despite costing RM7,000 more, comes with quite a list of creature comforts to more than justify the premium. As standard, the 1.5G comes with halogen projector headlights (manual adjustable), LED daytime running lights, rear fog lamps, powered side mirrors with integrated signal indicators and power sliding doors (left side only).

As for the 1.5V, the exterior comes with full bi-LED headlights with LED DRLs, front and rear fog lamps, rear LED lamps, power sliding doors for both left and right sides, keyless entry as well as an acoustic front windshield. This variant also sits on a larger set of 16-inch wheels (wrapped with 195/50 tyres), as opposed to the smaller 15-inch (185/60 profile tyres) wheels of the 1.5G.

INTERIOR

Inside, the cheaper 1.5G variant gets a three-spoke urethane steering wheel (tilt adjustable only), black fabric upholstery, standard back-lit instrument clusters with a single-tone multi-info display and manual air conditioning controls.

Moving one step up, the Sienta comes with brown fabric seats, two-tone multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, swanky Optitron instrument clusters with coloured TFT multi-info display. Both variants come with a non-upgradable six-speaker configuration, but the 1.5V gets a 2-DIN head unit DVD Player with a 6.8-inch touchscreen that supports Bluetooth, USB, Auxiliary input, voice recognition functions and reverse camera. The cheaper 1.5G settles for a regular 2-DIN CD Player with no touchscreen, but also supports MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity.

PERFORMANCE

Resting beneath the hood of this 1,350kg MPV is the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 106 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. It’s paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), with seven virtual ratios to get the front wheels going. This exact power- and drivetrain setup will be coming with the soon-to-be-updated Vios.2016 Toyota Sienta 1.5G & 1.5V Launch in Malaysia - AutoBuzz.my

SAFETY

On the safety side of things, both Sienta variants come with ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, Hill-start Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control. Isofix anchor points are only available in the second row seats, whereas driver and occupants are only protected by three airbags – dual frontal airbags and a driver knee airbag. Only the 1.5V comes fitted with the Toyota Premium Security and Solar Film, but 1.5G buyers can opt for the same at a cost.

WHAT ELSE?

For those who seek to upgrade any of the head units, Toyota is offering the top-of-the-line 2-DIN head unit DVD Player with 7-inch touchscreen that supports smartphone connectivity, WiFi, internet browsing, HDMI and GPS Navigation. This goes for around RM1,900.2016 Toyota Sienta 1.5G & 1.5V Launch in Malaysia - AutoBuzz.my
