2017 Hyundai i30 teased ahead of Paris Motor Show [+Video]

The Hyundai i30 as we know it is the hatchback equivalent of the Hyundai Elantra. But did you know that the outgoing i30 was so impressive that it made left Volkswagen CEO, Martin Winterkorn, feeling agitated? Now, the third generation i30 is due, and it will make its debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

What you’re seeing here are the few teaser pictures of the new i30.  It sports a hexagonal grille which Hyundai calls “Cascading” grille. The front gets a vertically mounted LED daytime running lights, while the rear gets a slimmer, more distinctive tail lamps. 2017-hyundai-i30-thirdgen-3

The new i30 has enough powertrains to keep competition at bay. For starters, the regular i30 will receive a new range of downsized engines, starting from a 1.0-litre petrol engine, a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit and a few diesel lumps. As for environmentalists, the i30 might be coming with the Ioniq’s hybrid powertrain. How about performance freaks, then? There’s good news too, as the N Performance i30 variant will receive a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is tuned to produce 260 horses.

Hyundai also confirmed that the i30 is strictly a five-door hatchback for now, with an estate variant somewhere in the pipeline. The new i30 will benefit from Hyundai’s latest suite of safety systems and connected technology, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.2017-hyundai-i30-thirdgen-2

The i30 will first be unveiled in South Korea on 7 September 2016 before going on public display at Paris in October. We wonder, will the current Volkswagen CEO, Matthias Muller, swing by the Hyundai booth this time for an impromptu ‘quality control’ visit?
