Volkswagen Jetta facelift coming to Malaysia soon, will be CKD

US-spec, actual specs may vary

The Volkswagen Jetta has been on offer in Malaysia since 2011, with the most recent update being the launch of the CKD variant in 2014. It is about time for Volkswagen Group Malaysia to introduce the Jetta facelift.

The facelifted Jetta made its global debut at the New York International Auto Show in 2014. The facelift is more of an aesthetic exercise than a major product update. This brings the C-segment closer to the looks of the Passat and to some extent, the Vento.

In front, the new Jetta features a more matured design. The front grille now comes with three horizontal chrome bars as opposed to the pre-facelift’s twin bar design. From the teaser image, the new Jetta will also feature new wheels. The biggest change to the exterior would be the new bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights. The tail lamps also come with new graphics.

On the inside, the refreshed Jetta now comes with an updated multifunction steering wheel and redesigned climate controls. New materials and design will be used in the cabin as well.

There’s currently no news about the powertrain, though we can expect the same 1.4-litre TSI motor to soldier on as the sole engine offering. The four-cylinder engine is twincharged to produce 158 hp and 240 Nm, and whether or not the current Golf TSI’s 148 hp, 250 Nm motor will be deployed still remains up in the air. Expect the same seven-speed DSG to be specified.
