Kia to showcase next generation Sportage in September at Frankfurt

It’s official. The outgoing Kia Sportage will soon meet its successor, albeit in its early stages of designing. The fourth-generation crossover SUV will make its global debut as a concept car at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show that’s set to take place on 15 September 2015.

The all-new Sportage is said to feature a bold, progressive design that supposedly ‘exudes power and agility from every angle’. If there’s anything history has proven is that we shouldn’t take Kia’s word with a pinch of salt, because when the current-generation Sportage made it off the production line, most of the design cues from its concept stages were carried over.2016-Kia-Sportage-Concept-2

There’s no word in the mechanical department, but at the going rate, we Malaysians will most likely be getting the naturally aspirated 2.0-litre inline-four GDI engine (not to be confused with the current NU 2.0L MPI engine) with possibly a six-speed automatic gearbox. As it stands, there is a total of six engines (four petrol and one diesel) powering the Sportage.

On the inside, the new Sportage embodies simplicity, married to modern contemporary style with rich material quality; a combination that Kia proudly claim will be their most refined, highest quality cabin to date.2016-Kia-Sportage-Concept-3

The design is led by an European team based in Frankfurt, and the outcome of this vehicle will spearhead the future direction and face of Kia Motors. Interesting times loom ahead, we reckon.
