The year of horse will be an aggressive and progressive year for UMW Toyota Malaysia. Grey importers or recon-car dealers in Malaysia on the other hand will face tough times ahead as UMW Toyota is on ‘assault mode’ to chew off a huge chunk of the MPV market pie. The ever popular MPV, Toyota Estima will be sold officially under UMW Toyota Malaysia as ‘Toyota Previa’. And believe it or not, the larger premium class Toyota Alphard is joining the ‘assault’ very soon.
The Toyota Estima has been well accepted and popular among Malaysians but was never sold under its official distributor UMW Toyota Malaysia. Things are about to change with the introduction of the Previa. Some may wonder why rename the MPV since ‘Estima’ has been doing so well in Malaysia. In the land of its origin, it is known as Toyota Estima, which grey importers bring in directly from Japan into Malaysia. It is sold as Toyota Previa once out of Japan and sold under official dealerships in other countries.
The estimated price was at RM270,000 when first introduced at the KLIMS 2013. Toyota has now revised the price to RM258,000 to make it more competitive in the market. This price is published at Toyota’s teaser webpage together with its specifications.
Available only in one variant, it is powered by a 2.4-liter VVT-i engine that produces 168 horsepower and 224 Nm of torque. Paired with a 4-speed automatic Super ECT gearbox that powers the front wheels. On the outside, 17-inch alloy wheels, auto levelling HID headlamp with AFS and LED rearlights.
Shell-coloured fabric seats inside the car with wood grain and silver finish on the dash, 6-speakers 2-DIN CD player with Tuner and MP3, and keyless entry. You may be disappointed to know there are only two airbags for such a big car; driver and front passenger side only. The good news is you get a 3-year warranty from Toyota Malaysia and a brand new Estima Previa.
