Isuzu D-Max updated in UK, new Euro6 1.9L turbodiesel, 162 hp and 360 Nm!

Isuzu has just introduced the updated Isuzu D-Max for the UK market and the biggest change here is a new 1.9-litre turbodiesel that replaces the old larger capacity diesel engines. The updated D-Max is now more efficient, safer and lighter compared to the model it replaces.

At launch the UK market gets a total of five trim lines – Utility, Eiger, Yukon, Utah and Blade with a range of single, extended and double cab variants to choose from, and compared to the 2015 model it replaces, the 2017 D-Max is a step up in terms of features.

EXTERIOR

The refreshed D-Max for the UK market is similar to what we get on our Malaysian-spec D-Max, as such it gets the new front and rear bumpers, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights and chrome front grille. Thanks to the revised front end and the slightly reshaped roof, it now channels airflow to the tailgate more efficiently. As a result, the D-Max sees a 0.4 percent reduction in drag compared to the old model. This improves the overall fuel economy and NVH levels.

INTERIOR

Inside, the cabin is identical to what we have on our local-spec D-Max with the addition of a different leather seat design and 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

PERFORMANCE

Here comes the meat of the updated D-Max. Isuzu’s workhorse is now powered by a sole 1.9-litre turbodiesel capable of producing 162 hp and 360 Nm of torque mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. This new powertrain combination also adds to weight savings of anywhere between 26 kg to 154 kg!

Additionally, the new engine meets strict Euro 6 emission standards without having to add AdBlue – a type of exhaust fumes treatment – yet it remains capable of 3.5 tonne towing capacity and one tonne payload. Fuel consumption has also improved by 4.4 percent to 22.5 percent (variant dependant) as compared to the old engines.

SAFETY

As standard, the D-Max comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD and ESC. The D-Max also comes with a reengineered front bumper and bonnet that better absorb impact energy in the event of a collision; thanks to the smaller engine that creates extra distance between the bonnet and engine which acts as additional crumple zone.

Prices in the UK for the Isuzu D-Max starts from £18,841.80 (RM104k) to £33,541.80 (RM185k). Locally, our similarly spec-ed D-Max retails at RM83k to RM128k hence kudos to Isuzu Malaysia. Now all it needs is that new engine.
