The middle child between the  V23 and V27 is… the iCAUR V25. Who would’ve thought?

The iCaur V25 has been officially unveiled in China via a social media post from the brand’s official Weibo page. The new model comes exclusively as an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and as the name suggests, will sit between the brand’s existing models such as the V23 and the V27

Design-wise, the V25 mirrors most of the retro-futuristic and boxy exterior design of the smaller V23, rather than borrowing the larger, Land Rover Defender/Land Cruiser-esque proportions of the range-topping V27. Up front, it gets round-ish headlights set within a squared-off face, flanked by a chunky, squared-off wheel arches for a rugged look. At the back, boxy vertical taillights and a side-hinged tailgate carry over the same rugged, lifestyle-SUV theme seen across the rest of the iCaur family.

With the larger number over the V23, the V25 naturally measures larger too. According to a filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), as reported by CarNewsChina, it measures 4,636 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, and 1,855 mm tall, riding on a 2,820 mm wheelbase. Wheel sizes go up to 21 inches, and the roof also houses a LiDAR unit, hinting at more advanced driver-assistance features — although it’s unlikely to make its way to our market.

No cabin photos have been released just yet, but expect the V25 to carry over much of the technology from the larger V27 while retaining some of the playful yet rugged vibes of the smaller V23. Expect it to receive a similar 15.4-inch infotainment display paired with a letterbox-style digital instrument cluster, along with some creature comforts such as leather upholstery and a sunroof.

According to the MIIT filing, the V25 is a plug-in EREV powertrain. It relies on a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that acts mostly as a generator for a 33.679 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. This then powers a pair of electric motors for a combined output of 335 kW (455 hp).

Pure EV range comes in at up to 150 km on the WLTC cycle, while fuel efficiency is rated at up to 1.52 litres per 100 km, also under WLTC. Top speed is capped at 180 km/h, and kerb weight is a hefty 2,720 kg — no surprises there given the battery and motor hardware onboard. iCaur hasn’t revealed a combined range figure yet, but it’s widely expected to be capable of over 1,000 km on a full tank and charge.

Charging figures haven’t been officially confirmed either, but given how closely the powertrain figures of the V25 match those of the V27, expect similar numbers here too. The V27 gets 6.6 kW AC charging and up to 60 kW DC fast charging, good for a 20-80% top-up in around 30 minutes. It also supports V2L (vehicle-to-load) at 6.6 kW, handy for powering household appliances on the go.

The MIIT filings revealed that the V25 can tow up to 2,240 kg with an optional towing package, though this does drop the departure angle down to 15 degrees. Skip the towing package, and the departure angle improves to 24 degrees, but towing capacity falls to 1,800 kg. The approach angle, meanwhile, stays the same regardless of configuration, at 28 degrees.

iCaur in China has yet to reveal a price for the V25, nor has it announced a launch date for the SUV, but it should be priced between the smaller V23 and the larger V27.  For reference, the V23 in China is priced from RMB112,800 (approx. RM68k), while the larger V27 is priced from RMB169,800 (approx. RM102k).

In Malaysia, the iCaur V23 is priced from RM119,800 for the 2WD variant to RM132,800 on the road, without insurance, in Malaysia. The V27 is also expected to launch here soon, commanding a larger premium over the V23.  Should the V25 launch in Malaysia, it will complete the iCaur lineup’s holy trinity of popular SUV sizes, giving buyers a small, medium, and large option to choose from, all wrapped in that same retro-boxy design language.
