MG IM6 previewed at KLIMS 2026, up to 778 hp and 600 km range

MG Motor Malaysia has previewed the MG IM6 at KLIMS 2026, and this could hint at the potential debut of the company’s sub-brand, IM Motors, which stands for “Intelligence in Motion” and is a joint venture between SAIC Motors, Alibaba, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech.

Measuring 4,904 mm long, 1,988 mm wide, and 1,669 mm tall with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, the MG IM6 is larger than the Tesla Model Y. It boasts an exterior that looks ubiquitous to modern electric vehicles, featuring an almost featureless design and lines alongside a profile similar to its Tesla rival, though a sedan bodystyle is also available, marketed as the MG IM5.

MG Motor Malaysia did not reveal much of the IM6 apart from its dimensions and select specifications, which include a panoramic glass roof, ultra-soft leather-style seats, a claimed range of up to 600 km (WLTP), 778 hp (572 kW), and 802 Nm of torque.

Referencing the MG IM6 sold in Thailand and Australia, three variants are available, namely Premium, Platinum, and Performance. The Premium variant utilises a rear-mounted traction motor that produces 295 hp (217 kW) and 450 Nm, enabling 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. This is paired with a 75 kWh LFP battery, which enables a range of 450 km (WLTP). Charging is supported with 11 kW AC charging and DC charging at 153 kW, which enables a 30-80% recharge in 20 minutes.

Stepping up to the Platinum 100 kWh RWD variant, the output of the rear-mounted traction motor increases to 408 hp (300 kW) and 500 Nm, which reduces the century sprint to 5.4 seconds. Equipped with a larger 100 kWh NMC battery, the Platinum variant of the IM6 has a range of 555 km (WLTP). Thanks to an 800V architecture, this variant of the IM6 supports charging at 11 kW AC and DC charging at 396 kW, which allows a 30-80% recharge in 15.2 minutes.

Moving on to the range-topping Performance variant, this adds a front-mounted traction motor producing 272 hp (200 kW) and 302 Nm, as well as a more powerful rear motor producing 506 hp (372 kW) and 500 Nm, which combined provide the peak 778 hp (572 kW) and 802 Nm outputs. This enables a brisk 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds.

Equipped with the same 100 kWh NMC battery pack, the Performance variant of the MG IM6 has a range of Equipped with the same 100 kWh NMC battery pack, the Performance variant of the MG IM5 has a range of 575 km (WLTP) and 505 km (WLTP) for the MG IM6. As before, it also shares the same charging specifications as the Platinum variant, with 11 kW AC charging and 396 kW DC charging.

Beyond the powertrains, the MG IM6 in Australia is equipped with bi-directional rear-wheel steer and intelligent air suspension that can calibrate and adjust ride height and stiffness based on current speed and payload. Additionally, the IM6, being an SUV, can even automatically lower itself for easier access.

In Australia and Thailand, the MG IM6 is equipped with a 26.3-inch free-standing touchscreen display on the dashboard. This display is seamlessly divided into two segments: a 15.5-inch section for infotainment with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10.5-inch digital gauge cluster for the driver. On the centre console, there’s also a 10.5-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen display that controls various vehicle settings.

It remains to be seen if MG Motor Malaysia is planning on introducing the MG IM6 in Malaysia. If it’s launched locally, it will most certainly be positioned above the MG S5 EV. Considering a base Tesla Model Y demands RM195,450 before options, the MG IM6 will likely find itself priced within that ballpark, but for now, keen buyers will have to settle for merely staring at it on the floor at KLIMS 2026.
