Chery Malaysia today has fully revealed the Chery Tiggo 9 here in Malaysia. Cousins with the Jaecoo J8 and the Omoda C9, the new car will stand as the brand’s latest flagship SUV and will be offered exclusively as a seven-seater with an estimated price under RM189,000.
The Chery Tiggo 9 overall carries a smoother and sleeker aesthetic compared to its cousins. It’s got a large front grille, textured with a diamond mesh pattern, that is flanked by a pair of slim headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs) that double as sequential turn signals. Lower down, a pair of air curtains intricately decorated with LED strips adds to its frontal presence.
Down the sides, its sleeker aesthetic becomes more apparent, with smooth and rounded body panels with a less prominent character line, unlike the ones seen on the J8 and C9. Enhancing its flagship presence are 20-inch dual-tone multi-spoke wheels, complemented by chrome window surrounds and lower door trim for a more luxurious look.
Keeping to its luxurious theme, once again, the rear is simplistic with little use of additional trims for a clean look, but shifts the focus to its full-width LED taillights. One thing that the Tiggo 9 will certainly have over its J8 and C9 is that it features real exhaust pipes funnelled through a pair of chrome exhaust surrounds.

The Chery Tiggo 9 measures 4,810 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, 1,741 mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. Unsurprisingly, it is very similar to the Jaecoo J8 (10mm taller, 5 mm wider, 31 mm shorter, 20 mm longer wheelbase) and the Omoda C9 (35 mm shorter, 5 mm narrower, 70 mm lower, same wheelbase). Chery also mentioned that two colours will be available at launch: matte grey and carbon black.
Inside is where it starts to show its differences as it departs from the dual integrated screen layout for a more modern setup. In front of the driver sits a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and heads-up display, paired with a 15.6-inch infotainment screen with support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

Sporting faux leather upholstery, it features 10-way powered driver seats with massage and ventilation functions, while the passenger is treated to 6-way power adjustments. Other notable creature comforts include a 14-speaker Sony sound system, a 50W wireless charger with ventilation, a Panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a dual-zone air conditioning.
As mentioned above, the Chery Tiggo 9 is offered as a seven-seater with a 2+3+2 seating configuration. The second-row seats come with heating and ventilation functions, along with retractable sunshades for added privacy. Meanwhile, both the second and third rows get dedicated air vents, with the second row’s integrated into the B-pillars and the third row’s mounted on the ceiling, to keep all passengers cool and comfortable.

As for storage solutions, the second row seats are 60:40 split folding, while the third row seats are 50:50 split folding. With all seats up, the Chery Tiggo 9 boasts a boot space of 448 litres and is expandable to 2,065 litres with all seats folded.
The Chery Tiggo 9 in Malaysia will feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 256 hp and 390 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels (AWD) via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), allowing for a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 9.3 seconds.
For added versatility, seven drive modes are available: Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-road. All can be configured via the rotary knob on the centre console or through the infotainment screen.
In China, the model is also available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) featuring the marque’s Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system. The Tiggo 9 will not be launching with this powertrain for now, but Chery Malaysia has confirmed that a PHEV variant will be introduced “when the time is right”.
This PHEV powertrain combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged hybrid engine with two traction motors for a total system output of 381 hp and 610 Nm. The setup can be paired with either an 18.67-kWh or 34.46-kWh battery pack, enabling a pure EV range of 80 km and 160 km (WLTC), respectively. With either battery capacity, the Chery Tiggo 9 CSH is reportedly capable of achieving a combined range of over 1,400 km (CLTC).
Typical of a car in this segment, the Chery Tiggo 9 comes generously equipped with safety features. Passive safety equipment includes 10 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 540-degree panoramic camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The Tiggo 9 also comes with the marque’s Level 2.5 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite, featuring functions such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Intelligent Avoidance System (IAS), and Automatic Parking Assist (APA), among others.
The Chery Tiggo 9 is now open for booking with an estimated price tag of under RM189,000. Included in the price is a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, alongside a seven-year or 150,000 km engine warranty. Early adopters will also receive a special early bird package, with further details to be announced closer to the SUV’s official launch, which is set to take place sometime next month.
