Making its first appearance on our shores at the Penang Autoshow 2026, the GWM Tank 300 hybrid (HEV) is now open for booking in Malaysia. This adds to the brand’s range of hybrid models, which includes the Tank 500 HEV, the Wey G9 HEV, and now the smaller SUV in the Tank range, the Tank 300.
The new GWM Tank 300 HEV will continue to feature a similar 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that’s now adapted for hybrid use. Now assisted with electrical systems, the car boasts a combined output of 346 hp and 648 Nm — more than the standard pure internal combustion engine (ICE) model, which produces 220 hp and 380 Nm.
The setup is similar to the Hi4-T system found in the Tank 500, but with a smaller battery and less powerful motors. As a result, its pure EV range is limited, though it still manages a respectable fuel consumption figure of 8.4 litres per 100 km.
Power is sent to all four wheels via a new nine-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Similarly, the new HEV variant will continue to feature its renowned part-time four-wheel-drive (4WD) system with electronically selectable 2H, 4H, and 4L modes.

This system also features individual differential locks on both axles for enhanced off-road capability. It is further supported by a suite of electronic aids, including All-Terrain Progress Control, multiple drive modes, Crawl Control, and Tank Turn Assist — the latter brakes the inside wheel to improve rotation in tight off-road situations.
A facelift for the GWM Tank 300 HEV was already shown at the Shanghai Autoshow last year, but it seems like we will have to wait a little longer for that. The HEV is still of the pre-facelift version, but it will now receive a new exclusive Sand Beige colour that comes with 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres. The flashier orange colour with 18-inch dual-tone wheels will be reserved for the pure ICE variant only

Being of the pre-facelift version, the car will continue to feature dual 12.3-inch displays with a design and layout similar to the older generation of Mercedes-Benz interiors. Other luxuries include a nine-speaker Infinity sound system, wireless charging pads, Nappa leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof.
For now, GWM Malaysia has yet to reveal a price for the Tank 300 HEV. Noting that the existing pure ICE model already starts from RM250,000 on the road and without insurance, the new HEV model is expected to be priced even higher. But of course, it should still sit below the larger Tank 500, which starts from RM329,000.
