Officially unveiled without camouflage or decals for the first time, Proton has announced that the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV (stylised as e.MAS 7 PHEV) is now open for booking. The national marque’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model is set to be offered in three variants, namely the Prime, Premium, and Premium Plus, with prices estimated to range between RM110,000 and RM130,000.
The Proton eMAS 7 PHEV measures 4,740 mm in length, 1,940 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, and rides on a 2,755 mm wheelbase. It’s ever so slightly larger than its EV sibling, the eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7), coming in on the larger side of the C-segment SUV category.

Safe under its Proton badge, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV largely mirrors the exterior of its Chinese counterpart, the Geely Starship 7. It differentiates itself from the eMAS 7 EV with a model-specific split headlight design and a full-width front lightbar on the higher-end variant, unique taillight signatures, different bumpers, and a number plate positioned on the tailgate rather than the rear bumper.
The Proton eMAS 7 PHEV will be available in five exterior colour options: Obsidian Black, Lithium White, Mercury Silver, Galena Grey, and Aquamarine Blue — the latter three colours making their first local appearance with the new model.

Inside, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV features a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 15.4-inch central infotainment display, mirroring the layout found in its EV sibling. The system runs on Flyme Auto OS, with support for English and Malay languages, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air software updates.
Higher-end variants are treated to features such as a 13.8-inch head-up display, a 16-speaker Flyme sound system, a 360-degree surround view camera, and a 256-colour ambient lighting system. The interior upholstery is available in two colour options: Alabaster White and Onyx Black.

Underneath the bonnet sits a BHE15PFI 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder dedicated hybrid engine that is good for 99 hp and 125 Nm of torque. This engine is similar to the one found in the all-new Proton Saga, but has been tuned for better efficiency at up to 46.5% thermal efficiency.
Here, it is paired with an 11-in-1 integrated dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), enabling series-parallel hybrid operation. Integrated with a traction electric motor, the hybrid powertrain boasts a total combined peak system output of 262 hp and 262 Nm, the latter courtesy of the electric motor. The car comes with three driving modes: Pure (EV-only mode), Hybrid, and Power, giving owners various choices for driving feel.
Proton revealed that the car managed to clock in a total distance of 1,104.5 km in a single tank driving in real-world conditions, as the car travelled from Penang to Johor Bahru, and back to the Proton Centre of Excellence (COE) at Shah Alam for the announcement event. Throughout the trip, the car purportedly achieved a fuel efficiency rating of just 4.0 litres per 100 km and had 189 km of range remaining when it concluded its journey.
Proton claims that the eMAS 7 PHEV is also 41% more affordable to own over a 10-year period compared to a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) SUV in the same segment. According to the company, a typical same-segment ICE SUV would incur RM49,800 in maintenance costs over a decade, while the eMAS 7 PHEV is expected to cost just RM29,200 over the same period.
Once again, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV is estimated to be priced from RM110,000 to RM130,000. The first 5,000 customers who confirm their bookings will receive a booking fee rebate of RM500, bringing the eventual booking fee to just RM99. Proton has also confirmed that the car will launch sometime in February, with deliveries following shortly and just in time for customers to “Balik Kampung” — hinting at its delivery before the Hari Raya festive season.
