Proton, via its Singapore Partner Vincar Group, is set to launch a lower-output variant of the Proton eMAS 7 (stylised as e.MAS 7) in Singapore. The car was showcased at the Singapore Motorshow, held from 8 to 11 January, and features an electric motor rated at 100 kW (136 hp).
According to the national carmaker, this variant was developed primarily for overseas markets, and the reduced power allows it to qualify for the more affordable Category A under Singapore’s Certificate of Entitlement (COE) system.
In Singapore, it is mandatory for all private vehicles to have a valid COE to be registered and used on the road. COE categories are determined by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) based on engine capacity and power output.
Category A applies to vehicles with engines smaller than 1.6 litres and power outputs under 97 kW — or under 110 kW for electric cars. The current Proton e.MAS 7, with its 160 kW (218 hp) motor, falls under Category B.
The difference in the COE category translates to a significant price difference. COE Category A is currently priced at SGD102,009 (approx. RM322k), while Category B costs SGD119,100 (approx. RM376k). The higher COE pushes the starting price of the e.MAS 7 Prime – which launched in the nation-island in September last year – northward to SGD175,988 (approx. RM556k).

The company says there has been strong demand for the Proton eMAS 7 in Singapore, with limited units remaining. The introduction of the lower-output 100 kW variant will provide a more accessible option for buyers, without compromising on the features that make it competitive against Category B competitors.
While detailed performance figures for the 100 kW version have yet to be released, Proton has confirmed that the smaller eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5) will also be making its debut in Singapore soon, with the compact hatchback making its first official appearance at the motor show last weekend.

Proton International Corporation Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Edmund Lim Meng Thong, said, “The introduction of the 100 kW model for export markets demonstrates Proton’s readiness and adaptability to local regulatory needs and market demands, and going forward, it will be rolled out to other markets should there be a need for it.”
“For 2026, we plan to grow export sales by strengthening our presence in current markets, exploring new countries, and introducing the latest Proton ICE and EV model offerings,” he added.
