MG Motor has unveiled the all-new MG S6 EV. If you think it looks a little familiar, that’s because this SUV is essentially a larger MG S5 EV designed to compete against the Tesla Model Y and the BYD Sealion 7 in the same segment.
Measuring 4,708 mm long, 1,912 mm wide, and 1,664 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,835 mm, the MG S6 EV’s dimensions make it an overall larger car than the MG S5 EV, and it is comparable in size to the Tesla Model Y.
The MG S6 EV’s exterior mirrors the familiar styling of its smaller sibling, with a front facade that is very similar in the arrangement of the daytime running lights, headlights, and front bumper design.

Things do get a bit different towards the rear, where the MG S6 EV sports a full-width tail-light setup. However, instead of the sporty chequered flag-inspired motif, it adopts a more conventional design. The rear bumper does still take after the sportier design of the front with a double-diffuser style.
Keeping with the similarities to the MG S5 EV, the bigger S6’s interior also looks similar to the former at a glance, although there are some subtle differences. The main change is that the MG S6 EV’s centre console extends up towards the central air-con vents, moving the row of physical controls for the climate control to the centre console itself. On the MG S5 EV, this is separated from the centre console stack.

Otherwise, the functionality remains the same, featuring a rotary gear selector and a ventilated wireless charging pad. For displays, the MG S6 EV is equipped with a 12.8-inch infotainment display and a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster.
The MG S6 EV is available with three powertrains, including two rear-wheel drive (RWD) variants with 205 hp (151 kW) or 244 hp (180 kW), and 360 Nm. The latter setup enables a 0–100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.
The third option is an all-wheel drive setup, which adds an electric motor on the front axle, bumping the combined output to 361 hp (266 kW) and 540 Nm. This shortens the century sprint to 5.1 seconds.
Two battery packs are available for the MG S6 EV. The line-up begins with a 62.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, available solely on the base 205 hp RWD variant – though no range figures were provided. The more powerful RWD and AWD trims meanwhile are equipped with a larger 77 kWh NCM battery, which enables a WLTP range of 529 km for the RWD model and 484 km for the AWD model.
In the UK, where the SUV is available solely with with the larger battery pack, the MG S6 EV supports AC charging at 7 kW, taking 12 hours for a 10–100% top-up. DC charging is supported at 144 kW, which enables a 10–80% recharge in 38 minutes.
Given that the MG S6 EV has launched in the UK and is slated for an Australian launch, both prominent right-hand drive markets, could the model make an appearance in Malaysia too? Given the competitive pricing of the MG S5 EV, the larger S6 could also employ the same strategy to undercut many of its contemporaries in the same segment, if it’s ever launched in Malaysia.
