Alfisti rejoice! Alfa Romeo making a return to Malaysia soon with the Giulia and Stelvio Veloce

Ever since Stellantis set up shop in Malaysia, the potential return of the legendary Alfa Romeo marque beckoned and while it may have taken some time, that comeback is one step closer to reality with an official website as well as Facebook and Instagram social media channels now up and running.

Spearheading the brand’s Malaysian return are the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV that were pictured on the site. In fact, the site currently has only two pages, a homepage and another for registrations of interest.

Both the models will be offered here in Veloce trim, the second-highest performance trim, right behind the fire breathing Quadrifoglio versions.

Both Veloce models will be powered by the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder punching out a healthy 280 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Coupled with a ZF eight-speed automatic, the duo will hit the century park in a scant 5.7 seconds – with power put down onto the ground via the rear wheels on the sedan, and all four wheels for the SUV.

Stellantis teased Alfa Romeo’s return as it set up Malaysian operations back in 2024. Back then, however, it was the entry-level Tonale that was displayed at the Gurun plant in Kedah that is now a regional assembly hub for them.

As for the retail side of things, Stellantis’ ASEAN managing director Isaac Yeo has stated that Alfa Romeo’s return here will be via a separate distributor with a low-volume boutique business model initially.

Nonetheless, with Stellantis Gurun plant opens the door for CKD operations down the road, should sales show promise. This would arm the marque with the ability to lay out competitive pricing, that in return, will give it a shot at breaking the dominance of the BMW and Mercedes-Benz duo in the premium segment, something Audi and Lexus have yet to achieve.
