Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has officially launched the all-new Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance, as the new flagship of the SL Roadster range here on our shores, slotting in above the AMG SL43 and non-hybrid AMG SL63 4Matic+.
As the pinnacle of the SL line-up, this stunning roadster augments the now-iconic 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine with an additional motor for even more power. Pricing starts from RM2,168,888, on-the-road and without insurance.
The key highlight of the Mercedes-AMG SL63S E Performance is its new hybrid powertrain, which tacks on an additional integrated electric motor on the rear axle. Said to be inspired by Formula 1, the motor is paired to a two-speed transmission and a mechanical limited-slip differential on the rear axle to provide direct propulsion to the wheels, giving drivers an extra boost when starting off, accelerating, and overtaking.

Supplied by a 6.1 kWh lithium-ion battery, the motors are capable of generating 95 hp (70 kW) of continuous power and up to 204 hp (150 kW) of peak power. Thanks to the fully-variable AMG Performance 4Matic+ system, the electric motor can also transfer power to the front axle (plus left and right split) when the rear starts slipping.
While AC charging is supported at up to 3.7 kW, don’t expect it to behave like your usual plug-in hybrid, as its claimed electric range is only 13 km. It’s a different type of hybrid, after all.
For more control on the battery’s charge, The SL63S E Performance comes with four selectable levels of energy recuperation, which the drivers adjust via the AMG steering wheel buttons. At the highest regeneration setting, one-pedal driving is possible and can feed up to 100 kW of energy back into the battery.
There are also eight selectable drive modes, consisting of “Electric”, “Battery Hold”, “Comfort”, “Smoothness”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “RACE”, and “Individual”. This allows for a tailored driving experience with adjustable steering feel, throttle response, damping, and sound.
Just like the all-new AMG GT63 that was unveiled alongside today, the Mercedes-AMG SL63S E Performance is equipped with the marque’s Active Roll Stabilisation system, working in tandem with the AMG Active Ride Control suspension. This setup continuously adapts to changing road conditions, enhancing both ride comfort and handling dynamics in real time. Combined with rear-axle steering, it improves low-speed manoeuvrability while boosting high-speed stability.

Aerodynamics was also a key focus for the model. Active aero elements below the front splitter deploy downward by approximately 40 mm at speeds above 80 km/h, creating a Venturi effect that helps suck the car closer to the ground, while the rear spoiler also deploys automatically at speed – or manually via the steering wheel buttons.
Stopping the car is the AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system featuring six-piston brake callipers at the front and one-piston floating brake callipers at the rear. To handle the extra weight from its hybrid system, even the brake discs have also been significantly up-sized, measuring 420 mm on the front axle and 380 mm on the rear.

Befitting its flagship status, the all-new Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance gains several unique design touches to separate it from its non-hybrid siblings, including new “E Performance” badging, red-highlighted SL63S badge, and bronze brake callipers. As a plug-in hybrid, it also features a charging flap located at the back of the car.
Available solely as a roadster, the SL’s fabric soft-top features a Z-fold design that allows it to open or close in just 15 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 60 km/h. Its compact design also enables a practical 2+2 seating configuration and enough space in the boot for luggage.
Standard exterior equipment include:
- AMG Panamericana front grille
- Bronze AMG brake callipers with carbon ceramic brakes
- Recessed door handles
- Badging highlighted in red
Customers have a choice of three additional design packages including AMG Night package, AMG exterior carbon fibre package, and AMG aerodynamics package.

The interior, meanwhile, remains mostly identical to the other models in the SL line-up. It features the same 11.9-inch central infotainment display paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Exclusive to this all-new hybrid model is the inclusion of AMG and hybrid specific displays and functions built into the MBUX system.
Standard interior equipment are as such:
- Flat-bottomed carbon fibre AMG performance steering wheel with aluminium shift paddles
- Electronically adjustable AMG sports seats with massage functions
- 11-spearker Burmester sound system
- Energizing Package Plus
- Wireless charger for mobile phones
- AMG and hybrid specific displays and functions
- 2+2 seating configuration
Customers can choose from a range of one- or two-tone Nappa leather colour combinations, paired with Microcut microfibre, and accented with either yellow or red stitching.
