Mitsubishi Triton-based next-gen Nissan Navara teased, alongside a refreshed Nissan Almera

Nissan has just dropped a teaser of the all-new Nissan Navara that will be based on the Mitsubishi Mitsubishi Triton. Alongside the pick-up, a new Nissan Almera was also teased, but it appears to likely be an extensively facelifted model to be based on the current N18 generation.

To say the present-day Navara (NP300) is a little long in the tooth would be a major understatement. It was launched in mid-2014, reaching Malaysia in late 2015. That’s almost a decade on our soil.

The teaser popped up during Nissan’s Global Product and Technology Showcase in Japan and gave away some of the new design cues. This includes the slatted grille and vertical headlights that debuted on the Note, and subsequently the new C28 Serena. Additionally, the teaser also had a red illuminated Nissan emblem on the grille, possibly indicating a high-performance version in the mould of the Ford Ranger Raptor.

Nissan will be leveraging its partnership with Mitsubishi, in the form of the Triton’s platform underpinning the next-gen Navara, which unsurprisingly leads to them sharing the same boxy silhouette. However, it won’t be a rebadging exercise and Nissan has committed to adding its own DNA into the Navara, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Unfortunately, the new Navara’s launch isn’t around the corner. Instead, it will likely debut sometime in Q2 2026 onwards.

Not one to be left out of the limelight, the facelifted Almera was also teased during the showcase. Given that the current N18 Almera has been on sale for almost five years, hence a new model isn’t unreasonable.

During the showcase in Japan, the Almera was described as a new sedan to be launched in Latin America – where it’s called the Versa – from April 2025 onwards. Nonetheless, Nissan also expounded that the Versa will be sold in additional markets.

This indicates that the new Almera will be a major facelift of the current N18 model. Looking at the teaser photo, the silhouette is almost identical to the current Almera, further lending credence to the speculation.

No other info has been revealed just yet, but expect the new Nissan Almera facelift to retain the same 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine when it arrives in Malaysia. That engine makes 100 hp and 152 Nm, with power sent to the front wheels via a CVT gearbox.
