Video: GWM Tank 300 Review – More than just a weekend warrior!

Looking for a rugged off-roader? Is the Mercedes G-Class firmly out of reach and the Suzuki Jimny just too small for your off-roading adventures? Worry not, for a new option is available and it’s the GWM Tank 300.

Available as a single variant, priced at RM250,000 on-the-road without insurance, the GWM Tank 300 – obviously – significantly undercuts the G-Class. While it’s RM50,000 more expensive than the Jimny 5-door, you clearly get more car for your money.

At first glance, the Tank 300’s aesthetic immediately brings to mind the Ford Bronco, as both vehicles share a rugged, boxy appearance with circular headlights and a prominent horizontal grille. This classic off-roader design language evokes a sense of strength and capability, echoing iconic vehicles like the Jeep Wrangler and the Toyota FJ Land Cruiser, which also shares a striking resemblance.

The Tank 300’s interior offers a surprising level of luxury for an off-roader. Occupants are treated to ventilated and massaging Nappa leather accented seats, double-layered insulated glass for a quiet cabin, and a nine-speaker “Infinity” sound system. Despite its rugged, off-road capabilities, the Tank 300 conquers the trails without breaking a sweat (literally, thanks to those ventilated seats!).

Under the hood of the GWM Tank 300 is a two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 220 hp and 380 Nm, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It comes equipped with a suite of off-road features, including an All-Terrain Progress Control System (ATPCS), Crawl Control, and Tank Turn Assist, which allows the vehicle to pivot in tight spaces—much like a tank!

As a newcomer to the Malaysian off-road SUV market, the GWM Tank 300 has made a strong impression. It seamlessly blends rugged capability with luxurious comfort and technology that can handle both weekend adventures and daily commutes in style. Could this be the new benchmark for versatile off-roaders? Watch the video to find out!
