After a lengthy teaser period, Volvo Car Malaysia has finally introduced the EX30 here on our shores. The fully electric compact crossover will be available in three variants, namely the Plus, Ultra, and Ultra Twin Performance, priced from RM188,888. The pricing also includes a lot of complimentary goodies, including five years of free service – more info below.
The Volvo EX30 is currently fully imported from China, but will become a locally assembled (CKD) model at Volvo Car Malaysia’s plant in Shah Alam next year, making it one of the few battery electric vehicles (EVs) manufactured in Malaysia. The model is already currently exported from Malaysia to neighbouring countries, including Indonesia.
Volvo EX30 Design
The all-new Volvo EX30 will come in as the smallest entry in the brand’s SUV line-up, coming in even smaller than the XC40 and C40 Recharge Pure Electric (now called EX40 and EC40). It’s absolutely tiny by modern standards, measuring just 4,233 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width, 1,549 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.
In terms of looks, the Volvo EX30 has inherited many of the brand’s latest styling touches first introduced on the flagship EX90. These include the modernised Thor’s hammer LED headlights and daytime-running lights, full-width-style LED tail lights with a split element bookending the rear windscreen, and the closed off grille featuring the modernised Volvo Iron Mark emblem.
Both variants look pretty much identical on the outside, with standard exterior equipment on the Volvo EX30 including:
- LED headlights and taillights
- 19-inch two-tone Diamond Cut alloy wheels
- Frameless auto-dimming wing mirrors
- Powered tailgate

Volvo EX30 Interior
Inside, the Volvo EX30 is truly unlike anything we’ve seen before from the Swedish carmaker. A Scandinavian minimalist dashboard is expected, but the funky angles and unique colours – unlike most of its other models – also suggests that Volvo is trying to reach the younger crowd with the EX30.
Buttons inside the cabin have been reduced to an absolute minimum (only two window switches in front, located in the centre console, despite having four controllable windows!), with virtually all vehicle functions gathered inside the 12.3-inch Google Built-in touchscreen (with wireless Apple CarPlay) that also doubles as the instrumentation display, a la Tesla.
To maximise space inside on such a small car, Volvo has incorporated several innovative solutions on the inside, such as a retractable cupholder on the centre console, as well as a soundbar speaker setup located right beneath the front windscreen, freeing up the door panels for more storage space. Cargo space is rated at 318 litres for the rear, and a 7 L frunk up front.
In line with its carbon neutrality commitment, Volvo has also made a concerted effort to utilise recycled materials inside the EX30’s cabin, including recycled denim fibres for the blue upholstery, and Nordico faux leather made from discarded water bottles.
Other standard interior equipment on the Volvo EX30 in Malaysia include:
- Harman Kardon Premium Sound
- Dual-zone climate control
- Ambient lighting
- Powered tailgate
The two Ultra variants add on:
- Powered front seats with lumbar adjustments and memory function for Driver seat
- Panaromic Sunroof
As with all Volvo cars, the Volvo EX30 is also big on safety. The mini SUV comes as standard with the following advanced safety kit:
- Upgraded Pilot Assist L2 semi-autonomous driving
- Driver Alert System
- Lane keeping assist and run-off-road mitigation
- Autonomous emergency braking (front and rear)
- Door opening alert
The Ultra variants add on:
- New-generation Park Pilot Assist
- 360-degree surround-view monitor
