Honda Civic RS hatchback unveiled in Japan, 6-speed manual only with rev-matching

Honda has unveiled the Japan-only Civic RS hatchback which is strictly a 6-speed manual transmission. This is the only manual Civic that is available in Japan apart from the FL5 Civic Type-R. The inclusion of a manual transmission in the FL1 Civic RS follows the revelation of a similar model as a prototype at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year.

The FL1 Civic RS enhances the driving experience with a rev-matching function and a lighter flywheel. These modifications, combined with the manual transmission, contribute to a more responsive and engaging driving experience. Compared to the standard model, the Civic RSFL1 Civic RS features larger front brakes and a stiffer steering torsion bar for improved handling precision. Additionally, a slightly lowered suspension contributes to a sportier driving experience.

The RS model features a sportier exterior with 18-inch black alloy wheels which look very similar to the Malaysian-spec, red RS badging, and a redesigned front bumper featuring black accents. The chrome trim has been replaced with black elements to create a more cohesive and aggressive look.

The FL1 Civic RS is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine generating 182 hp (Metric) and 240 Nm which allow the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. Power is transmitted to the front wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox featuring a rev-matching system.

The interior of the FL1 Civic RS features red accent stitching and a leather-wrapped aluminum shift knob. To further elevate the driving experience, Honda has included Sport and Individual driving modes, allowing drivers to tailor the vehicle’s performance characteristics to their preference. It also features a Google-based infotainment system with a nine-inch touchscreen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Safety-wise, the FL1 Civic RS comes with Honda Sensing as standard. This suite includes collision mitigation braking, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, and lead car departure notification.
