MG has made a comeback in Malaysia as MG Motor Malaysia, and if this is your first time hearing of this car brand, boy, you’re in for a bit of a history lesson. MG is short for Morris Garages, and the brand has been around for a century now. It has a legacy of making sports cars and cars that are generally fun to drive.
Founded in 1924, the MG brand was acquired by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in the early 2000s. SAIC is China’s largest automotive manufacturer and it also owns brands like Maxus and Wuling.

MG returns to the Malaysian market stronger than before with 2 new exciting electric vehicles (EVs) – the MG4 and the MG ZS EV. The convertible MG Cyberster EV is also set to be launched in Malaysia in the second quarter of the year, and we’re absolutely looking forward to that.
SAIC’s revival of MG honours the brand’s legacy and roots, and the launch of the bonkers MG4 XPower is pretty much a testament to the revived brand’s commitment to making fun cars – Where else can you get a relatively affordable car that does 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds? It also looks the part of a fun car with its twin spoiler setup and orange brake callipers.

The MG4 XPower is the range-topping performance variant of the MG4 in Malaysia. The other three variants that follow after it are the “Luxury Extended Range”, “Luxury”, and “Standard”. The Luxury Extended Range boasts a WLTP range of 520 km while the Standard provides a welcoming introductory price of RM103,999.

With the MG Pilot safety suite, the MG4 is packed with a decent amount of safety features. Standard items include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, and High Beam Assist.
On top of the standard features, the Luxury, Luxury Extended Range, and XPower variants add Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Door Open Warning (DOW).

One key strength of the MG4 over its competitors is its connectivity. With the MG iSMART phone connectivity, you can locate your vehicle with your smartphone, use your smartphone as a key, check the status of your car from your phone, plan your routes, and use your phone to adjust the car’s air conditioning settings.

Launched in a single variant only, it fetches a price RM125,999. It gets a single-motor front-wheel drive (FWD) setup that outputs 176 hp (metric) and 280 Nm.
Among the safety equipment fitted on the MG ZS EV under the MG Pilot safety suite are Active Emergency Braking (AEB) with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
