Amtel launches Lokatag Pro – Dashcam, SmartTAG, and connected telematics combined in one device!

Amtel has unveiled its latest product in the Lokatag series, dubbed the Lokatag Pro, that combines a dashcam and a SmartTAG toll reader together into one device, making it truly first-in-a-kind in the market.

The company did not provide technical information for the device, including its dashcam specifications, but notes that the toll reader utilises infra-red technology from Efkon and supports both traditional and new NFC Touch ‘n Go cards, while the dashcam will be a single-channel forward-facing camera only.

Aside from just the SmartTAG reader and dashcam, the Lokatag Pro also comes equipped with an AI Voice prompt feature, allowing drivers to access real-time information on card balances and alerts in three languages (Bahasa Melayu, English, and Mandarin) without having to take their attention off the road.

But the most intriguing feature is perhaps the built-in automotive grade e-SIM that enables a wide range of connected services, including GPS tracking, real-time alerts, as well as cloud remote control and access through the new Loka App. The device will also support over-the-air (OTA) updates for feature improvements in the future.

The Loka App

More importantly, the always-on connectivity allows the Lokatag Pro to function as a telematics suite for the latest-generation distance-based motor insurance and takaful packages. To that end, the company has signed a new partnership with Zurich Malaysia today to work together in developing these new feature in the future, while also enhancing and automating more parts of the claims process.

“Lokatag Pro represents a pivotal moment in our journey, as we transcend beyond traditional hardware sales into becoming the first Smart Mobility Services provider in the region,” says Amtel Holdings Group CEO, Chester Koid. “We are ushering in a new era of automotive accessories, where safety, innovation and connectivity converge seamlessly into one intelligent platform known as the ‘Loka Ecosystem’.”

“As Lokatag aims to elevate the driving experience for every Malaysian, our goal is to onboard 500,000 users within the next three years as part of our Loka Ecosystem,” added Chester Koid.

The new Lokatag Pro device will retail at RM1799, and is now available for pre-order, ahead of its expected delivery beginning March 2024. Interested customers can pre-order their device through Lokatag’s website (linked here), and as part of its introductory offer, pre-order customers will also be eligible for “free car insurance with every purchase of Lokatag Pro”, subject to terms and conditions.
